Short, but sweet

In my other life as a design teacher, I recently heard about an interesting idea to develop creative skills in students – instant design briefs. This involved a whole day of ‘one-hour design briefs’, where students were challenged to come up with sketches and copylines, without worrying too much about the quality of finishing.sports74.ru

I adapted this idea for use with my own students, using a single one-hour logo and strapline project, dividing them into teams of two. They really responded well to a break from their usual longer-term projects. I even thought that they enjoyed the pressure of the restriction on time, which seemed to make the project more ‘real’ for them.

The students produced excellent responses to the brief and had a bit of fun – not bad for an hour’s work.
